About Muscle Testing

Your subconscious mind knows EVERYTHING that is going on with your body, past and present.  There is a record of everything you have seen, felt, heard, touched, tasted, experienced, etc.  Muscle testing, a form of kinesiology, is a way to access the subconscious mind to find out what is going on with your body, what is good or bad for your body, and what your body needs in order to get well, to function better, and to heal properly.  It is the training wheels for developing one’s intuition.

Muscle testing is a form of kinesiology that is used in many realms of alternative health.  It is often used by chiropractors, nutritionists, herbalists, homeopaths, acupuncturists and energy workers.  It is often used as a diagnostic tool for determining whether a specific remedy or treatment will be beneficial.

There are several forms of muscle testing.  You can use a pendulum, the sway test, arms, hands, fingers, etc.   The sway test is one of the easiest forms to demonstrate and ties in with the scientifically recognized “heliotropic effect.”  I first heard about this from Mark A. Bragg, who shared Professor Kim Cameron’s explanation of the heliotropic effect, “This refers to the tendency in all living systems toward positive energy [light] and away from negative energy [darkness].  From single-cell organisms to complex human systems, everything has an inherent inclination toward the positive and away from the negative.” (Brighter and Brighter Until the Perfect Day)  All living organisms respond to positive and negative stimuli.  The sway test is a technique where the body will sway forward in response to positive stimuli (like going “toward the light”) and sway backward in response to negative stimuli, (like going “away from the darkness”), as described above.  Quite a few forms of muscle testing indicate a positive or negative response by whether or not certain areas of the body hold strong or become weak when presented with various stimuli.  See below for my experiences with such types of muscle testing.

My experience with muscle testing:

Dr. Timothy Francis first introduced me to muscle testing during my first visit with him.  He demonstrated it with my arm held out straight in front of me.  When I said, “My name is Heather,” he pressed down lightly on my wrist, and my arm held strong.  It held strong when I told the truth.  When I said, “My name is Tim,” the slightest pressure on my wrist brought my arm down like a rock.  There was nothing I could do to hold my arm up.  When I told a lie, a falsehood, my body literally weakened, the joints buckled and the muscles weakened.  To me, muscle testing is like the body’s natural lie detector test.  It holds strong for truth (positive stimuli) and weakens at falsehoods (negative stimuli).

I learned how to use a pendulum when I was first learning Reiki, which can actually be a means of muscle testing.  The Emotion Code taught me several other forms of muscle testing, including self-testing techniques.  I practiced quite a few.  Some came easier to me than others, some were effective with slight adaptations, and others were not effective for me at all.  I am now adept and confident  in using quite a few muscle testing techniques.  My favorites are a spin-off of the “ring in ring” method and a finger flick.

Proxy and surrogate muscle testing are possible, and can be done at a distance using a proxy.  I have a lot of clients that have neck, shoulder, and back issues, so I prefer not to directly use an arm muscle test.  I ALWAYS do proxy muscle testing with those that I work with, whether I work with someone remotely or in person.

Do you want to learn more?

If you want to learn more about muscle testing, I would suggest doing the following:

  1. Read The Emotion Code by Bradley Nelson.  This book teaches quite a few forms of muscle testing, including techniques for self muscle testing.  I would encourage you to read it and practice several techniques.  Some work better for individuals than others.  I certainly have my “favorites.”  As I practice new techniques, I add more variations to my arsenal of muscle testing tools.

  2. Take one of my workshops where I teach muscle testing.

  3. Schedule a one-on-one muscle test coaching session (if you don’t want to learn and practice in a group setting).  I would be happy to help you gain the confidence and techniques you desire in order to muscle test for yourself and others.

FYI:  A little about “Permissions”

Just so you know, it is NOT okay to just tap into someone’s energy field and start muscle testing or doing energy work for them without their permission.  In my opinion, that is an invasion of privacy and is morally wrong.  An exception to this would be a parent/guardian who always has jurisdiction to be able to work with their dependent children any time without the child’s permission.

If you plan on muscle testing for someone else, please read the following suggestions.

If possible, permission should be granted verbally or in writing before a muscle testing or doing energy work for someone.  A minor should not be worked with unless a parent/guardian has consented.  Here is a good rule of thumb to follow:

  1. Get permission from the person themselves whenever possible.

  2. Get permission from the closest living relative (or medical power of attorney) from an unconscious individual or person who is incapable of giving permission.

  3. Get permission from a parent/guardian for a minor child.

  4. Get permission from a pet’s owner for a pet.

Here are the questions I ask at the beginning of a session:

  1. Do I have your permission to muscle test for you?

  2. Do I have my own permission to muscle test for you? (If I am sick or not in a good state mentally, emotionally, spiritually or physically, you wouldn’t want me muscle testing for you!  You need to see that I am “capable” and “healthy” enough to muscle test for you.)

  3. Do I have God’s permission? (There was only one time this was a “No.”  Upon further inquiry, it was because my client was perfectly capable of muscle testing for themselves, and they needed to gain experience and greater confidence in their self muscle testing abilities.  During that session, I coached my client through the progression of questions we needed to address while they did all their own muscle testing.   It was a great learning experience.)

  4. Do I need anyone else’s permission? (Usually this is a “No.” There was only one instance when I needed a minor’s permission - in addition to their parent’s permission - to do energy work for them.  There ended up being a great backstory to that … which I didn’t find out about until after the fact… but this is not the place to share it.)
